Before shopping for a bicycle water bottle, check out some reviews of some of the best sellers:
Klean Kanteen – This bottle is very lightweight (not that should matter too much), is made of thin metal, and looks good. Klean Kanteen wins in the looks department if you like the basic look and smooth surface. Klean Kanteen has the stainless steel inside with no coating such as epoxy and for those of you who might be concerned and want to be on the safe side this could be a big plus. Klean Kanteen is made of thin metal and feel like they would dent quite easily. It is painted so they can scratch but with care they will continue to look like new after daily use.
The Klean Kanteen bottle has the cap threading formed into the neck of the bottle. The wide mouth of the bottle makes it easy to put ice cubes in, which you can’t do with the many of the other brands unless you have very small ice cubes. The Klean Kanteen has a loop cap and the cap seals quite easily and leaks are usually not a problem. Because of a thicker thread size it is easier to screw the cap on.
Polar Insulated Water Bottle -
Normally, thermal bottles are too hard to squeeze to get fluid out of them, and they don’t insulate very well at all. These are the first that I know of that actually worked, and they’re just as squeezable as regular water bottles. They are absolutely freezer safe. Go ahead, fill them and freeze them, then see how long it takes before you can drink out of them. Some have complained about the bottle affecting the flavor of the fluids but just wash out your bottles before the first use, and you wont have a problem. The Polar Insulated 24 oz bottle might be too big for your bike frame so you will want to make sure they will actually fit on your bike before buying. The thermal technology of the Polar Insulated Water Bottle is just miraculous as they keep cold liquids cold and hot liquids hot, even in the winter.
Nathan Stainless Steel -
This bottle has a simple slim shape that could fit as easily in a backpack side pocket, bike messenger bag, or clip to a belt or bag loop. The straw top is fantastic. There’s a sealed-hole at the top so you can sip your water without that weird vacuum effect you usually have with other straw tops. It’s also really sturdy and already has taken a bit of a beating but like the Klean Kanteen, the Nathan Stainless Steel can scratch but usually will continue to look like new after daily use with a little care. But again, it’s not about the look, right? The most awesome part about the top is that the belt clip flips the straw up so if your hands are dirty, you never have to actually touch your drinking straw. Great if you’re out riding in the wilderness. The bottle isn’t insulated so if your drink is cold, your hands freeze and your drink gets warm fast if hot.
